Statement in recognition of the work carried out by the University of Los Andes at the Caparo Experimental Station

As a Society, we are concerned that the knowledge, research and conservation of our forests that ULA has led together with public and private institutions at the national and international level may be lost.

Since 1983, the University of Los Andes and its Faculty of Engineering and Forest Sciences were assigned the guardianship of 7,000 hectares within the Caparo Forest Reserve, in recognition of the research work carried out since 1970 in said reserve. This lease agreement gave rise to the Caparo Experimental Station (EEC) and with it a successful history of joint work between the Ministry of the Environment and the university for the conservation of an important relict of the tropical dry forest of the western plains, the training of experts and professionals in the forestry area, research on timber production and use as well as agroforestry practices, in addition to extension and environmental education activities.
